THE TIMES OF INDIA got associated with one of the professional college of its type, Princess College, Raipur. This college has very aptly established its reputation among the Institutes of higher learning as one of the most desired and awaited institute that is sufficiently fulfilling the requirement of a truly Professional English Medium College exclusively for Girls to give them a hesitation free atmosphere to bloom with all their inherent talent by getting rid of the shyness that usually hinders them to hone their skills anywhere else and provides them the freedom of a very healthy atmosphere that has become a rare thing. The reason for the association with this unique college was a very important issue of Human Energy Crisis and its Management. It was a seminar for young professionals who, in the demanding environment actually forget to enhance their productivity through very simple and natural systems. The seminar was intended to open up the avenues of Human Energy renewal. The excerpts from the seminar are presented.


Energy Crisis & Management…………!

Most of us usually try to manage time and we keep boasting the same every now and then. We have been continuously getting transformed into a different version of species through the timed phases. First we were Homo Sapiens and after that Human Being and now the latest Human Resource….

The moment this very word, ‘Resource’ got attached to the most valuable one, ‘Human’ things have started taking some different shape and perceptions. Employers as well as the Organizations have literally made us a resource. Resourcefulness of a man is defined by certain scales and units of measurement. Measurement of human efficiency has even been made possible today. The working culture that prevail in the organizations today pay a huge attention to the matters like knowledge, skills and competence.
Quarterly, Half yearly or Monthly evaluations of human efficiency is done to keep the track of their learning.
Organizations spend a lot of their funds for the enhancement of knowledge, skills and Competence but they do not even think of spending on their energy enhancement. Science defines Energy as the capacity to do work. So if the capacity is enhanced then efficiency and productivity will surely go higher.
Organizations demand ever – higher performance from their workforces. Putting longer hours at the office has actually back fired and the real reason is that Time is a limited resource. But personal energy is surely renewable and it can be enhanced to limits unknown to the entire mankind.
One of the most prevailed practice is of taking regular breaks during the office hours. But a simple fact is neglected which is actually the Value of break and not the duration. Stress reduction is a big agenda for the Board of Directors of most of the Organizations. That, unfortunately has remained as a meeting agenda only.
The forms of Human Energy could be broadly of four types namely, The energy from the Body, from the Brain, from the Heart, from the Super Power. These are the most basic forms that Human possess.

Energy from the body: Human body has a very effective energy generation source. It has been blessed with the capacity to obtain and harness energy. Since its our lifestyle doesn’t let the body to behave in it’s natural pattern. We are so absorbed in the demanding environment that we are more concerned for the outputs and literally forget the input resources.

How we don’t let the energy renew: It has been found that checking and replying the e-mails and giving busy tones to phone calls while doing the work which we are supposed to finish off with priority takes 25% more time and reduces the effectiveness of the work by a damaging 70%. We fail to make the priority list for the next day and even if we do then we fail to keep the same into regular practice. Unless we are addicted to something , we can’t actually get that thing embossed into our subconscious.
We work continuously and when we get the signals like yawning , hunger, lack of concentration and many more, we boast that we are working too hard without rest and food. Instead these signs are the notes of our depreciating productivity. Getting in to the amateur definitions of productivity as the efficiency to perform in lesser time has resulted in the elongation of office hours which actually gives the liberty to work for longer hours in the office for the same work that could have had been done well in the predefined office hours. Unfortunately the entire hierarchy belongs to the same species. The upper level thinks but doesn’t want to take the initiative or else looks for outsourcing the matter. Some very good managers even take the initiative but they finally stuck when it comes to the monetary components. The very basic reason behind all these difficulties is actually the very word resource that has been attached to the most revered word human. This has taken human for granted as a resource and hence the entire philosophy of maximizing the productivity of the same resource. We sit on the chair with a commitment to accomplish the task in a well specified time frame but we land receiving calls and attending unwanted visitors. All this creates a blurred punctuality and takes us in to the tragic turns of productivity.

Energy from the Brain: Brain is the most important faculty of a human body as it is blessed with the capacity of recharging itself with several processes like that of the sleep, music etc. But unfortunately this masterpiece faculty has to reside in the body which works in the way already discussed. Mind is nothing but the focus of energy and it has the infinite capacity to take you to Rome in just a second. The main work of the mind is to think and analyze something that is to be done or already done.

How we don’t let the energy get renewed: We get diverted to very small things like a gossiping colleague or even a simple walk in of a person. We focus on the targets and try to be multitasking as we take it as a necessity amidst the juggling demands.

Energy from the Heart: Heart is the processor of feelings and it’s the heart that throbs for somebody else even. All the human feelings have a well defined heart beat rate. Tears are always the result of feelings. Heart is the scrip writer of most of the stories we tell ourselves. One can cultivate a lot of energy through heart just by telling the most hopeful and empowering story possible in any given situation, without denying the facts.

How we don’t let the energy get renewed: We keep our own feelings defined and fixed towards almost everything. This doesn’t allow the heart to move out of this vicinity and the end result is a low heart.

Energy from the Super Power: Human connections with the super power has been known for millions of years. Super power is the most faithful network that can connect humans with the nature. We have been blessed with several methodologies for the purpose starting from the simple breathing to a simple smile. How we don’t let the energy get renewed: We get so much absorbed in anything the we intend to do that we do not even feel as if we should at least give some renewal to ourselves for the sake of maintaining the level of expected productivity. We come to know the crisis only when it gets over the danger mark and the sense of urgency knocks at our minds.

Energy Renewal Methodologies:

1. Regularizing the sleep schedule. Sleep is the best renewal that the energy from the body could be offered. Unforced sleep i.e. sleep without any alcohol or sedatives can only renew the body energy. Use of alcohol forces the body to take rest and this leaves the natural resting system of our body hindered and this give more tiredness after getting up in the form of hangovers & headache..

2. Cardiovascular exercises thrice a week energizes the entire infrastructure of a human body. Be it brisk walking or proper breathing processes . There are two types of Cardiovascular exercises, intentional and un intentional. Un intentional is the breathe that our body takes for our survival and which we do not actually feel during the entire day. The unintentional one is the one which we breathe for the body and we feel every breathe we take in and leave out. This is the input that we give.

3. Morning walks without the intentions of getting fitter and healthier leads to a roam around back to pavilion without results. No headphones, cell phones should be taken for a morning walk.

4. Regular food intake is a must for renewing the energy. Lesser in quantity but larger in quality..

5. Regular breaks every 90-120 minutes with good value and sufficient length increases the efficiency and productivity to a good high. It may be a casual walk in the office or in the parking lot even.

6. Keep a vigil on the signs of demanding work like yawning, eye watering, hunger etc. they are the alarms for renewal.

7. Appreciation is a very simple and the most effective tool to energize one’s emotional energy. Appreciation may fetch you the instant recharge the moment you do that. Simply appreciate somebody for anything you see, you not only energize him but also energize yourself. The positive source of energy comes from this method.

8. Give enough time to your family and the loved ones. Make them go for a ride on a bike even if you own a BMW or Ferrari. Doesn’t matter if it rains or it’s hot outside.

9. Fix up the time for replying the e-mails and reverting to the calls. This can happen only when you plan your day well in advance before you go to sleep. Think of the most challenging thing for the next day and it would simply become the first object in your priority list for the next day and do not forget to work it on the next day itself. It’s not just planning but also the practice which makes syou more productive.

10. Track your Sweet Spots during the day. Every one of us have them. They are the moments that give us pleasure and relaxations any moment we are in the Sweet spot.

11. Without intermittent recoveries, we get negative emotions and this leads to a lost focus and the end result is poor decision making and lesser productivity.

12. Always give due respect to the other person’s words and think how can his words lead you and your team to improved productivity.

13. Take the attitude of the other person as a tool for your self improvement. If you hate a particular attitude in others then you should practice not to add it in yours.

14. Lastly, praise somebody, give smiles without expecting returns and laugh unintentionally, dance if you can’t, sing if you hate listening them and live your core values all the time.
